Created in 1877, the Mattatuck Museum exists to collect and intepret the works of Connecticut artists. It sits on the Waterbury Green square in the historic district, next door to the Waterbury YMCA. Its galleries primarily showcase painters from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, including valuable works by Arshile Gorky, John Trumbull, Kay Sage, and many more.
